A swathe of some of Sydney’s most marginal seats will be hit by thousands of manufacturing job losses unless the NSW government does something to boost the supply of gas, modelling by former Labor trade minister Craig Emerson shows.
In a politically sensitive finding, Dr Emerson expects severe gas shortages will become a reality across the state by winter 2016 when a “supply cliff” hits.
Because gas rationing affects manufacturing plants ahead of homes and hospitals, more than 3000 workers will be vulnerable to the supply shortfall.
